Microsoft Word 2003 – Tiny blinking cursor!

If you experience a teeny tiny cursor in Microsoft Word 2003 then I have a very simple fix for you! (Probably so simple you will curse yourself for not thinking of it earlier!)

On the Standard toolbar – Select the zoom option and set it to 500% and then set it back to 100%.

Your tiny cursor should now be blinking away in all its full size glory!

  1. Still working that little trick. Thnx for posting this.
Anyone knows how you get that little cursor anyway?

  2. It seems like nothing, but this tiny cursor drives you crazy! Such a simple solution – you’re a genious – thnx!

  3. Can Microsoft fix it through their updates?
Probably not – expensive software which must be modified by its users – still two three years and Microsoft = Linux.

  4. OH My Gob thanx soooooooooo much i spent so much time looking at the freakin small cursor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oh and u were right i did curse myself! 🙂

  6. Benjie’s solution works for me ONLY TEMPORARILY. When I close and re-open the Word document, the cursor reverts to the small size. I can use Benjie’s solution to fix it, but again, the solution is only temporary — until I close the document.

How can I PERMANENTLY fix the problem?

  7. That was great… I had been going crazy for the last two weeks trying to FIND the damn thing. Now it’s back (even if it is only temporary), and I can’t see why I can’t do that every time I open, if needed. Thanks!

  8. This is Awesome!!! I am still using 2003 to write my dissertation and the tiny cursor nearly drove me insane. Thankfully, this website was the first website when I searched in Google and solved the problem.

  9. Thanks! Worked like a charm – I can’t believe it was such an easy fix after all this time!

  10. That was so simple, thanks heaps! What I don’t understand is why is changed in the first place.

  11. Worked for me too.

And even easier: hold the control key while rolling the mouse wheel up and down, to zoom in and out. Quick and easy!

Don’t forget that this also works for most web pages!

  12. Just had the same issue…the problem is the same issue returns when i close the file and reopen it…Anyone find a solution that fixes this completely?
